HeyAskr
Parent-written rules for kids’ AI chat; conversations not stored.
Our verdict: caution
Read the rationale below. This is not a certification, endorsement, or guarantee of safety.
- What it is
- A parent-ruled AI chat that aims to guide homework rather than complete it, and to redirect emotional distress to a real adult rather than act as a therapist.
- Age guidance
- FAQ says designed for ages 5–18; parents set the child’s age in settings. Parent creates the account — child needs no login.
- Parent controls
- Parents write rules in plain language (and presets). Rules can be changed anytime. Because chats are not stored, there is no parent transcript review or proactive alert based on past conversations.
- Privacy / data (UK/EU framing)
- Site claims GDPR compliance, no ads, and that child conversations are never stored on their servers — when the chat closes, it is gone. Uses Anthropic’s Claude for generation. Safety page is clear that no storage means they cannot review what was said or alert you later. Do not confuse heyaskr.com (kids product) with heyaskr.ai (separate adult workspace product with a different privacy policy).
Why this verdict
Caution — promising design, important privacy trade-off.
Parent-authored rules and “no storage” are attractive for data minimisation. For UK Children’s Code thinking, less child data can be good. The flip side is real: you cannot audit chats, and the operator cannot send you a heads-up about something worrying that already happened.
Stay aware
- Relatively small/newer-looking consumer product — verify company details, billing entity, and a full privacy policy URL on the kids domain before paying.
- AI will not follow every custom rule perfectly.
- Keep device-level screen time and household rules in place; this is not a babysitter.
